Blue Jackets Fire Coach Arniel

The Columbus Blue Jackets fired coach Scott Arniel on Monday. Assistant Todd Richards will lead the struggling team on an interim basis for the remainder of the season. Columbus dropped to 11-25-5 on the season after being felled by reigning Hart Trophy recipient Corey Perry's hat trick on Sunday. The Anaheim Ducks skated to a 7-4 triumph to keep Columbus in the basement of the NHL with 27 points. Arniel replaced Ken Hitchcock as the Blue Jackets' fifth coach in team history. The 49-year-old Arniel was in his second season at the helm of Columbus, which limped to a 13th-place finish in the West in 2010-11. Columbus currently sits 26 points out of first place in the Central Division. The Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks are locked in a three-way atop the division.
