Top Dog Training Tips For Every Dog | Love My Pets GPS Pet Safety ...

It can be hard to wade through all the information about training dogs. The following article has the information you?ve been looking for.

TIP! When you bring that new dog or puppy home, you want to get the entire family involved in the training. This will help with consistency, which is important when training, because your dog will know he has to listen to everyone and not just one person.

Depending on the personalities of your dogs, it may not be possible to train them at the same time. Try training your dogs independently if you find them losing concentration during group training.

TIP! Whenever you introduce new animals to your home, make sure you do it slowly. If you want a second pet, look for one that will be compatible with your current pet.

Communication is the key to training your dog. During your dog?s training sessions, keep your signals and commands clear and consistent. Inconsistent rewards or varied corrections can confuse your dog. Your verbal commands and the body language you show your dog also need to be consistent to be effective. Don?t forget to figure out what your dog is communicating as well. He will communicate whether he feels good or whether he needs to stop.

TIP! Make sure your dog enjoys training sessions. Remember that dogs have short attention spans, and keep your sessions short accordingly.

If you don?t monitor treat-style training rewards, your dog might become overweight. The number of treats a dog gets during training can rack up pretty quickly, and a lot of owners overlook this part of their canine?s diet.

TIP! When it comes to training your dog, never give up. You have to regularly enforce rules with your dog, so he won?t unlearn what you have made it learn.

You will want to make certain you have your dog fixed at six months of age. Obedience training should be put off until this is done. A dog that is fixed will be more willing to learn. You and your pet will enjoy a longer and happier life together.

TIP! Dog training may end up being a bit of a chore if you?re training more than one dog at a time because often, when dogs are together they won?t be able to stay concentrated. Especially when you first begin training, your dogs can easily be distracted by each other or have different learning speeds so train them as individuals until they both fully grasp the concepts you are presenting.

Do not try to train your dog if you do not feel you can be patient. If you do not give your dog patience they will not pay attention to your efforts.

TIP! Keep your dog?s attention focused on something else if something really bothers him. For example, if it is difficult for your dog to be around other animals, you should distract him with praise and entertainment in order to keep him preoccupied when you walk past animals during your walks.

When you bring that new dog or puppy home, you want to get the entire family involved in the training. Your dog may see one family member as the one in charge, but other family members need to be consistent in their expectations of the dog?s behavior also.

TIP! Use the appropriate tone of voice when you are correcting your pet. Dogs can be very perceptive and can pick up cues from their owners about how the owner is feeling.

Choose one phrase to use every time you want your dog to do his business. When you take your puppy outside, say ?go potty? to them so they will eventually associate the phrase with going to the bathroom outside.

TIP! Keep your dog outside while you are away from home to prevent it from chewing on your items. If you cannot do this, then make rooms that have valuable items in them inaccessible.

Dogs tend to concentrate on one thing to the exclusion of everything else unless that concentration is interrupted. Once your dog knows his attention command, you will be able to coerce him to ignore almost anything.

TIP! Housebreaking pads normally do more harm than good when house training a puppy or dog. Wee-wee pads are prone to leaks, which make your dog think that it is okay to eliminate in that area due to the smell.

To ensure you succeed in training your dog, you should make sure they are active in life. By their very nature, most dogs are not sedentary. They need to get plenty of good exercise to be happy and fit. There are many options for activity, such as going running, playing with toys outside or even agility classes. Make the activity consistent and stimulating for your dog.

TIP! Be sure to feed your dog healthy foods and treats. A poor diet can negatively affect them in various ways.

Give challenges to your dog regularly. Test your dog on occasion, to be sure that he remembers what you have taught him and help him keep it fresh in his mind.

Ensure that your dog understands the rules. Your entire household will need to be on the same page when it comes to boundaries. It can quickly undermine your efforts.

TIP! If you are leaving your house for any reason, make sure to let your dog out or take him for a walk before you leave. This should tire him out a little.

Vary the treats you use as rewards for your dog during training sessions. Using treats that your dog does not usually receive help to convey they message that your training sessions are special.

TIP! Do not allow your pet to become complacent in his training. Establish a clear set of rules and stick with it at all times.

To help you train your dog you should know what kinds of foods your dog likes to eat. Since these will be the rewards for good behavior when you are training the dog, it should be something that really motivates him. Really pay attention to his reaction when he is given the treat and adjust your reward foods accordingly.

Demand respect and attention from your dog at all times. If you cannot wait for your order to be obeyed, do not ask anything of your pet.

TIP! Any behavioral problems that crop up suddenly warrant a visit to your veterinarian to rule out health conditions. Sometimes pain and other health conditions can cause some animals to act strangely or lash out.

If a dog experiences separation anxiety, it should get experience being around others. It will relieve your pet?s stress and anxiety if it has other important human relationships in its life.

TIP! Make sure that both you and your dog enjoy the daily training. Try and develop a bond with your dog by playing with him, it will only encourage the dog to want to please you more during training.

You need to know when you should get professional help. If your dog seems resistant to your training efforts, you might want to try a professionally-led class. Your trainer will pinpoint the problem areas and point you in the right direction.

TIP! Do not tie up your dogs too closely. If chains get intertwined, the dogs can get hurt.

The only way to properly train a dog is with a positive and motivated attitude. When your dog follows commands during training, always reward him. Using negative reactions and punishment don?t work and they will cause your dog to fear you.

TIP! A dog needs to be trained from the outset. It is much easier to get a dog to learn the right way rather than making it unlearn its bad habits.

Now that you have the necessary information that you need, you can now use what you have learned in training your dog. Knowing the proper training techniques is the only way to train your dog properly

(AP) ? The pounding surf and currents from Hurricane Isaac on a remote spit of Alabama shoreline has again revealed the wreckage of a schooner that ran aground in 1923, delighting curious tourists and locals.

The schooner Rachel and her eight-man crew ran aground near historic Fort Morgan on Oct. 17, 1923, during a tropical storm. The men were headed to Mobile after a stop in Cuba. While the men aboard the Rachel survived, others on nearby schooners weren't so lucky.

"A tropical storm much like Tropical Storm Isaac that we just went through was hitting the Gulf Coast and a large number of these schooners were out in the Gulf. One was sunk just off Perdido Key and the crew was lost," said Michael Bailey, historian for the Fort Morgan Historical society.

Because the Rachel was so far onshore, its owners could not salvage her, Bailey said. The owners tried selling the wreck with no luck. Later, the Rachel was burned. Bailey isn't sure who burned the ship or ship or why.

Shifting sands and tides eventually buried the Rachel until Hurricane Camille struck the Gulf Coast in 1969 and part of the ship was exposed before she was recovered.

Bailey glimpsed The Rachel for the first time when she was unearthed by Hurricane Frederick in 1979. He began to seriously delve into her history in 2004 after she was unearthed by Hurricane Ivan.

"I saw 20th-century features and thought it could have been from early 1900s," he said. "I found a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shipwreck study that had a description of The Rachel and learned it was built in Mosspoint, Miss., at the De Angelo Shipyard," he said. Bailey found a relative of the ship's builder who gave him copies of the ship's plans and photographs of the ship.

Although The Rachel was a common ship for her time, the wreck provides a unique look at what life was like along the Gulf Coast almost 90 years ago, Bailey said. He likened schooners of that era to the semi-trucks that fill interstate highways today. The schooners supplied many of the region's industrial and commercial needs. Bailey believes The Rachel had a load of lumber of when she ran aground.

According to local lore, she might also have had alcohol on board with the hope of making a little extra money from the voyage.

"That's not impossible," Bailey said. "She was coming from Cuba and it was during Prohibition."

Hurricane Isaac uncovered more of The Rachel than has been seen in a long time. On a recent afternoon, beachgoers crawled through her charred remains and posed for photographs.

The Rachel might be intentionally recovered with sand because of the danger from scrapes, cuts and bruises her rusted iron skelton and splintered wood poses to tourists, Bailey said. In the meantime, people like John Lamb of Richmond, Ky., are making the most of her reappearance.

Lamb, who was vacationing in the area, took pictures of his young son by the wreck as he thoughtfully explored every inch of The Rachel.

"I think the most interesting thing is that, being from Kentucky, we don't ever see anything like this. We thought we'd come check it out," he said.

Jim Fletcher of Fort Worth, Texas, has a vacation home on the beach and has seen The Rachel after previous storms. Fletcher was excited to find more of the ship exposed after Isaac. He tugged at a orange-tinged and barnacle-encrusted rope to pull more of it from underneath sand before taking picture.

"History is a very fleeting thing and I think you should take advantage of it when you have the opportunity before it is gone forever," he said. "Who knows how long this will be here, maybe it will be covered again and we might not see it in this state for another 100 years."

NEW YORK, September 7, 2012 ?The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today Ang Lee has been added to the roster of its 2012 NYFF HBO Directors Dialogues participants. FSLC also announced the selections for the 16th edition of NYFF?s Views From the Avant-Garde, the popular yearly touchstone for experimental film around the world as well as the presentation of filmmaker awards from the Kazuko Trust for the first time. In addition, NYFF announced the selections for this year?s short film programs.

Joining the lineup of the popular HBO Directors Dialogues at the New York Film Festival will be Academy-Award winner Ang Lee, the director of NYFF?s Opening Night Gala presentation LIFE OF PI. The Directors Dialogues pair a director with a journalist as they discuss the filmmaker?s career, views on their own approach to making movies as well as the current state of the art of filmmaking. Previously announced were Abbas Kiarostami (LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE), David Chase (NOT FADE AWAY) and Robert Zemeckis (FLIGHT). Lee will be joined by Todd McCarthy (NYFF Selection Committee member and Chief Film Critic, The Hollywood Reporter) in conversation on Saturday, September 29 at 2:30PM.

The selections for the New York Film Festival?s Shorts Programs were also announced with films from Canada, Denmark, Egypt, France, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland and USA represented among the 12 films. The eclectic group of films includes a controversial look at high school shootings (Milad Alami?s NOTHING CAN TOUCH ME), the ?making of? soft-porn auteur Russ Meyer (Todd Rosken?s UP THE VALLEY AND BEYOND), G?rard Depardieu as a travelling salesman (Constance Meyer?s FRANK-ETIENNE TOWARD BEAUTITUDE) and a young boy believing his grandfather is actually a zombie (David Moreno?s ZOMBIE).

The 16th edition of Views from the Avant-Garde (October 5-8) once again will offer a robust slate of programming at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center including free-to-the-public screenings in its Amphitheater, as it presents four nights of singular work from the frontiers of innovative moving-image making curated by Mark McElhatten and Gavin Smith and sponsored by Film Armada.

The opening day of Views will kick off with a Special Presentation of Phil Solomon?s ?EMPIRE? in a free public presentation with reception in the Elinor Bunin Film Center Amphitheater. The four-day event will conclude with a special day devoted to Avant-Garde master Peter Kubleka, including the U.S. Premiere of Martina?Kudl?cek;s four hour documentary FRAGMENTS OF KUBELKA and the special multiple projector piece MONUMENT FILM, a World Premiere presented by Peter Kubelka himself.

Other World Premieres will include Michael Robinson?s breakthrough near feature?CIRCLE IN THE SAND,?Laida Lertxundi?s THE ROOM CALLED HEAVEN. Nathaniel Dorsky?s?APRIL. In addition Jerome Hiler?s ultra rare film works are being presented in?original prints in newly edited versions shown for the first time anywhere.

Another World Premiere presentation will be filmmaker, installation artist, producer and cinematographer Jeff Preiss?s STOP. The film is a unique family document, a quiet tour de force, of fleeting lyrical moments accumulating into a heartfelt chronicle of identity and gender transition. Known for his work as a director, and as a cinematographer for Bruce Weber (BROKEN NOSES, LET?S GET LOST),?Rosa von Praunheim and others, Preiss has made music videos for R.E.M., Mariah Carey and shown his installation work in many major international museums.?After its presentation at Views, STOP will be installed in the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art as part of the upcoming exhibition ?Blues for Smoke?.

The presentation of David Gatten?s THE EXTRAVAGANT SHADOWS will also be making its World Premiere. The 3-hour piece is Gatten?s longest work to date and Gatten is currently the subject of a mid-career 14-film exhibition tour TEXTS OF LIGHT originating from the Wexner Center of The Arts. Known for his philosophical and playful 16mm films working with innovative processes of image making, and touching on history, perception, and the art of reading, Gatten has created his first digital magnum opus with THE EXTRAVAGANT SHADOWS.

Views From the Avant-Garde will also announce the inaugural presentation of two $5000 scholarships to Views filmmakers from the Kazuko Trust as part of this year?s event.?The filmmakers chosen by?Views?curators Mark McElhatten and Gavin Smith as well as consulting curator/panelists will be announced in the upcoming weeks. This year?s other panelists for this exciting new award include Nellie Killian film programmer at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and founding director of Migrating Forms and?Chris Stults, associate curator in the Film/Video department at the Wexner Center for the Arts.

Said Nora Coblence, executor of the estate of noted jewelry designer, Kazuko Oshima, ?When the time came to decide where Kazuko?s funds should go, the Film Society of Lincoln Center seemed like the ideal choice. She loved film with a passion, always supported the Film Society, and was quite avant-garde in so many of her multi-artistic endeavors.?

Additional highlights include a retrospective presentation of Ferdinand Khittl?s rarely seen THE PARALLEL ROAD, as well as tributes to the late Chris Marker (the first NYFF showing of SANS SOLEIL)?and Raul Ruiz (the presentation of the fabled but rarely screened THE BLIND OWL).

Other Views presentations of special note:

Luther Price a notorious and perennial favorite at Views from the Avant-Garde will be featured with his first one-person show, A LUTHER PRICE BESTIARY.??Each film screened is a unique art object carefully sculpted, treated, and collaged.?Price was included in the 2012 Whitney Biennial where Roberta Smith of the New Times praised his work as one of the outstanding highlights of the exhibition.

One Direction Defends Naked Prince Harry: Give Him a Break!

The Royal family may be unhappy with Prince Harry these days, but the hottest boy band on the planet has no problem with the antics of their fellow handsome Brit.

Asked by E! News about the naked Prince Harry photos that cropped up a couple weeks ago, members of One Direction stood firmly erect in the young man's corner.

One Direction in Concert

Louis Tomlinson said the incident actually makes Harry a "strong figure because he's real," while Niall Horan kept his viewpoint simple: "He's a 20-odd year-old guy doing what he wants."

Of course, Liam Payne recognized that Prince Harry is not just any 20-odd year-old guy.

"A lot of people would have gone away on holiday and whatever, it doesn't matter for them. For him, it matters," said Payne.

The hullabaloo over the nude pictures appears to be close to blowing over, although Carrie Reichert recently spoke out and extended the story when she spilled details from the night in question.

Still, at the end of the day, Harry is young, handsome and single. Until Pippa Milddleton comes to her senses and dates the guy, can you blame him for having a bit of fun?

Special education law is complicated stuff.? I have said here before that Special Ed Law is a lot closer to metaphysics than it is to contract law.?? If you hate ambiguity, Special Ed Law may not be your thing. (I still think that there is a Foxworthy joke in there somewhere.)Any way, inspired bu a presentation that I gave at a recent conference of the Council for Exceptional Children, at National Harbor, Maryland, we periodically run a series of posts on the nuts and bolts of special education law. This may be old hat to you veterans, but it is always good to review the basics.? So are you ready for special ed law 101?

So please fasten your seat belts and ensure that your tray tables are in their upright positions... we are cleared for takeoff...? Get ready for a trip back to the basics ... starting next week right here.
