Job Summary:

The IWMF seeks Communications and Social Media Strategist. The position calls for an experienced individual responsible for developing and implementing an effective media and communications plan to increase the visibility of and to strategically advance the IWMF?s advocacy, programs and events. Social media experience, attention to details and excellent writing skills are a requirement. The Communications and Social Media Strategist should thoroughly understand the IWMF?s mission and should be able to fastidiously acclimate to IWMF?s various programs and advocacy.

The Communications and Social Media Strategist will develop and maintain the IWMF?s relationships with national and regional reporters, increase placement in national, local and new media, and coordinate with IWMF staff to achieve issue-based program objectives and advocacy campaigns.

The IWMF will only consider applicants that are experienced social media strategists who are at the forefront of the social media arena. The Communications and Social Media Strategist reports directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

The Communications and Social Media Strategist performs a wide range of duties as assigned and requested by the IWMF including, but not limited to:

  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive communications plan with attention to developing the organization?s brand, particularly via social media? ??
  • Directing outreach to and fostering relationships with national and local news media, including bloggers, television bookers, print reporters, columnists and editorial staff? ??
  • Implementing use of social media and new technology for publicity campaign communications and media? ??
  • Coordinating media strategy with national and local organizations? ??
  • Organizing compelling news conferences, publicity and media briefings? ??
  • Executing rapid response for breaking news stories. Weekend and after hours may be required. ? ?
  • Creating and maintaining excellent system for tracking and reporting media placement and contacts? ??
  • Working with IWMF staff to set communications goals, train staff in communications skills, and track and report successes? ??
  • Drafting press releases, blog pieces and other materials? ??
  • Updating and maintaining the IWMF?s website and social media outlets? ??
  • Fielding calls from press and directing them to the right spokesperson? ??
  • Also performs a wide range of job duties as assigned and requested.?

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have demonstrated ability to manage own work and work of others with minimal supervision? ??
  • Requires high level of judgment and ability to take initiative and work independently? ??
  • Must be able to handle multiple ?priority? projects simultaneously and set and meet deadlines? ??
  • Extensive knowledge of organizing advocacy communications strategies preferred, particularly via social media? ??
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills, including attention to details? ??
  • Demonstrated ability to manage effective relationships with staff, news media, and allied organizations? ??
  • Strong track record of working with new and traditional media? ??
  • Ability to work quickly and cooperatively under pressure? ??
  • Knowledge of CRM and video editing is desired?
